"On nose the Ceretta 2019 opens up quite brooding, somewhat somber, yet fascinating, ethereal, with a stony/tarry scent. It gets more and more precise with air and time; typical for any young Sandri Barolo. On the palate I found a masterfully sculpted, quite imposing expression of Perno, with a youthfully chiseled structure and plenty of vertical thrust. A baritone Barolo with striking vibrant nerves and a good punch. There is a noble, clear austerity to the Ceretta that becomes very pointed and lucent as the wine passes the palate fully. The tannin feels essential, it leaves a firm, lingering impression, yet it's buried deep in all elements of compexity. There is so much going in the glass, a constant push & pull. The - rather dark-toned - aromatics are dazzling and ever changing as the wine dwells in the glass: wild cherry, dried plums, blue flowers (with some enzian, crocus), camphor, crushed stones/minerals, cassis-herbal pastille, sage leaf and rooibos come together over strong tarry layers. The young, poised and cogent impression Ceretta leaves is striking. This is a distinctively singular and somewhat mystic expression of Perno, especially tasted next to the Perno/Disa bottlings. Its presence will certainly help to profile and unerstand the nuances in the rather large MGA of Perno even better. What can I say.. This is a deeply impressive, riveting Barolo and a splendid new addtion to Elio's gamma di vini." (Manuel Bürgi)
